TerpSys
A TerpSys Success Story

Your business is unique;
our process brings that out.

Switch came to us with an outdated website. Their site needed to convey a lot of complex, highly technical information while seeming modern, trustworthy, and approachable. TerpSys worked with Switch, moving through our process to update their brand and make their site accessible to their target audiences.

Switch

We started with our discovery phase, where we learn what our customer needs out of the project. Like many older sites, the original Switch site no longer reflected Switch’s business goals or product offerings. They were having a hard time showing why customers should choose Switch instead of their competitors. We sat down with them for a Goals and Objectives meeting to find out:

  • How the current site came to be
  • What its perceived strengths and weakness are
  • Who their users are
  • What their users want to accomplish at their site
  • What Switch wants its users to do

This conversation is important because we design and build user-centered, business-supporting web solutions – to do that, we need to understand your users and your business. The goals that come out of this meeting guide us every step of the way. Every decision we make about a feature or a design is traced back to these goals.

It’s how we ensure your success.

For Switch, we identified their top four goals:

  1. Educate consumers about solar energy options and processes
  2. Establish Switch as knowledgeable, trustworthy partners
  3. Expose Switch’s range of offerings without overwhelming the consumer
  4. Highlight Switch’s unique value proposition

Switch Wireframes ImageWith those in mind, we entered our structure phase. We came up with a new site map and navigation scheme, and then wireframes—the blueprints of web pages that describe what content goes where. This helped Switch make good strategic decisions about messaging and hierarchy before committing anything to code. We can show basic interactivity through clickable wireframe prototypes, so that our customers can better understand how a user will flow through the site. Each element on the wireframe maps back to Switch’s business and user goals.

Next, we came to our visual design phase. We had what we call our creative kickoff, a creative discovery session that examined where Switch’s brand currently was and where it needed to go.

Switch Creative Kickoff ImageWe presented and explored sites Switch liked, competitors’ sites, and ideas from our designers. We left this meeting knowing everything we’d need to design the right brand and supporting materials for Switch. As a result of this highly productive conversation, we delivered a visual design that knocked it out of the park for Switch.

Our development team translates the wireframes and visual designs into a working product in our implementation phase. We use an Agile development process, where we iteratively and incrementally build out projects feature by feature, keeping our customers in the loop through weekly project demos. This helps ensure that if our customer’s priorities change mid-project, we can adjust our approach and deliver a successful solution, on time and on budget.

Switch was delighted with the results. They received a new brand, logo, and website that exceeded their expectations. Their new site is clean, easy to navigate, and establishes them as a trusted, knowledgeable solar installer.

“TerpSys gave us exactly what we needed, and much more. I think how they handled those first steps was essential to how great everything turned out. Once we defined the goals and figured out our brand, everything was tailored to fit us perfectly.”
